Hi, this is Chris Wheeler with Savage Enterprises and I’m coming to you today to talk about the COVID-19 (Coronavirus). What we are doing as a company to combat the wide-spread of the virus and the precautions we are taking. A couple of things that we are doing at Savage is: If someone (who works at Savage) is showing symptoms or anyone in their household is showing symptoms of COVID-19 or any kind of sickness we recommend they stay home for a few days. Return (to work) once they have a doctor’s note and they’ve been checked out. This is to help curb the spread of the virus, we have also increased our sanitary measures by wiping down commonly touched surfaces from once a month to a few times a week.
We engage in conversations with our staff and managers as they engage with their staff in regards to cleanliness and washing their hands. All employees have been instructed, after use of the restroom, they must wash their hands when returning back to work.
Employees Who Travel
Employees are still going to take a vacation and still require time off. When (employees) are traveling for vacation upon arriving back we are asking them not to return to work for a few days to make sure they don’t show any symptoms and strongly suggesting they see a doctor before coming back to work.
We are taking necessary precautions with all of our staff to make sure we curb the spreading. We want to be the solution and leaders and not part of the panic from the spread of the virus. The important thing is not to panic and understand that the virus is here; it is spreading, but how can we mitigate that risk.
I think it’s important that we understand our primary purpose for business is to create products for harm reduction, mainly in tobacco. We also have other products that create harm reduction and during times like these people will want to reduce their harm. They will turn to nicotine or other products and want to have access to them.
It’s part of our job to lead the way; it’s time for retailers and distributors to look at their precautions.
I just want to assure you that all of our products are made in a state-of-the-art facility. We already have standard operating procedures, the FDA has visited us, OSHA has visited us. We have a very, very nice facility and even before this, we had precautions and standards in place.
Obviously, we’re paying much closer attention to the entirety of the company to make sure everyone’s lowering their risk of infection because at the end of the day we’re not so worried about the youth contracting it- it’s about our parents and grandparents. My dad is pushing 70 & having had leukemia, and I’ve talked with him every day to make sure that he’s alright. I think the big thing is to understand that we’re all in this together- it doesn’t matter what walk of life we’re from, we’re all in this together so whatever resources we can provide to you guys (maybe not so much toilet paper) we want to make it openly available.
Some other things that aren’t as important as what I’ve just mentioned is that we are closely monitoring trade shows and restricting travel for employees to foreign countries as far as work travel goes, obviously we don’t have a lot of control over what they do in their off time and that’s why we put into place a mini quarantine. We suggest that they see a doctor prior to coming to work if they do travel overseas, though it is strongly suggested that they do not.
As a company we are taking a look at some these trade shows, we are currently not booking any trade shows, and many of the trade shows that we are scheduled to attend have been pushed and we are closely monitoring this situation.
The CDC and, I believe, WHO has come out and said that as far as receiving cardboard packages being shipped, the virus doesn’t seem to be living on cardboard. However, as packages come into our facility, we are making sure that they are quarantined upon arrival and then they are checked at several quality checkpoints. Obviously, we are going to ramp up our efforts to make sure that everyone’s hygiene is at 100%.
A lot is unknown right now, and data is changing week by week and day by day. I think we’re going to be alright. We’ll find a way- we always find a way.
What I’m excited about is the amount of communication that’s going on and the fact that Donald Trump himself came out and acknowledged that this is a situation, and the fact that companies are stepping up, governments are stepping up to communicate with us to let us know what’s going on.
Thank you for watching. If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to reach out to our team and email us: firstname.lastname@example.org.
